Sally Lees

Designer Sally Lees started up her jewellery business in 1998 after studying an art and design BA in the north of England. She decided to move to London in 2000 and was accepted for a place at Cockpit Arts amongst a wealth of London’s most talented designer makers.

Her favourite metal is polished aluminium which she hand prints with her signature floral motifs and dyes in vibrant colours. The designs are delicate and the printing process gives them an etched vintage like feel.

Inspiration comes from nature with daisies, carnations and roses taking centre stage. The intricately printed patterns are taken from original line drawings by Sally and once dyed the aluminium’s mirror like finish is reminiscent of Japanese lacquer.

Her work has been featured in various publications including Anodized! By Clare Stiles and Design and Make Coloured Aluminium Jewellery by Lindsey Mann and her ‘Stripe’ cufflink collection was short-listed for the Kayman Award by the British Jewellers Association.

Sally likes to keep production on a small scale and enjoys a hands-on approach to her making and hopes to continue doing so in the future.
